Popcorn Party!

We filled another spirit stick with lassos! We had a popcorn party to celebrate. We enjoyed the popcorn and watched a Berenstain Bears DVD. We had a great time! :-)

Fun with the SMART Board

They had fun with the SMART Board in library today. They have been learning about how to take care of books. The students know what are "Yes, Yes, Always, Always" choices for books and what are "No, No, Never, Never" choices for books. They played a fun game where a picture would pop up on the SMART Board. The students would put their heads together and decide if the picture was a "Yes, Yes, Always, Always" or a "No, No, Never, Never" choice. Then, Mrs. Baker would pick a friend to come circle the correct answer on the SMART Board. The best part was the cool sound effects when they were correct!

We've Been Busy!

Things have been very busy in our classroom. We made turkeys with beautiful feathers and labeled the parts of the turkeys. They did the labeling all on their own and did great! We have also been working on -at words in reading groups. We cut out -at turkeys, and they wrote -at words on the feathers (cat, bat, mat, etc.)
In math, we made another class graph. We figured out how many letters were in our names and graphed them. We have long names in our class! We found that 6 letter names had the most and 4 letter names had the least. We also learned how to play a new game in math called, Cover All. The students play with a partner and each partner has a blank grid and some counters. They roll the dice and place the correct amount of counters on the grid. The first person to fill up their grid wins. It gets tricky near the end because they need to get the exact number to fill it.

Computer Lab

We went to the computer lab for the first time today. We practiced logging in with our user names and passwords. Then, we played on the website www.starfall.com. It's a great website where they can practice their letters and sounds. Also, they can work on letter blends and reading. We had a great time, and they are already excited for next week's computer lab!
In math, the students worked with partners to order number cards from 0-20. They did awesome! I was so proud of them.

We are Reading!

We have been reading a book a week in reading centers. They are filled with sight words and words we can stretch. We work really hard at our reading and wanted to share it with you. Unfortunately, one of the groups video clips did not turn out, but I will try to get another one of them up within the next week.
We also played a really fun game in math centers called "Spin a Number." It's played just how it sounds. The students spin a number (#'s 1-10) and move their counter that many spaces. The first person that arrives at the finish line wins.

Turkey Feathers

Today, we made turkeys for our bulletin board. First, we cut out the turkey. Then, I gave them feathers with color words on them. We read the colors and colored them the appropriate color. Next, we cut out the feathers and glued them to our turkeys. They looked great! We have a very colorful bulletin board.
We also continued our unit on the 5 senses. (We got a little thrown off with Halloween.) Today,we did a taste test. We tasted things that were salty, bitter, sweet, and sour. It was a lot of fun! They were very glad I didn't give them anything spicy. :-) We will be working on touch tomorrow.

K's birthday was on Saturday, so we celebrated it today. She would like everybody to know that she is officially 6 years old. :-) Happy Birthday K!
