Counting with Stickers!

In math, I gave each student a blank number grid and a sheet of stickers. We went on to put the correct number of stickers on each numbered row (IE. we put 2 stickers next to the 2 row, 3 next to the 3 row, etc.) The students realized the pattern after a few rows, and they saw that it made a staircase. Also, this was a fun way to practice our counting skills. When they were finished, I let them keep the rest of the stickers. You would have thought that I gave them a million dollars! :-) We've also been working on the letters I and J this week. We have made iguanas and jaguars. Plus, they have been reading pre-decodable books in reading groups. I'm so proud of them!

We Love Library!

Our library day is Thursday. We have already gone to library two times, and we checked out our first books last week. They had been talking about going to library again ever since last Friday. That's how much they love it! Mrs. Baker, our librarian, read them a story today called, "We're Going on a Book Hunt." They got to hold one of Mrs. Baker's stuffed animal friends while they listened to the story. The story is a great one because it has a song with actions. It teaches them how to check out books and how to treat books nicely. They had a lot of fun with the book. Then, they checked out their own books. After they checked out, Mrs. Baker gave them their own bookmark to color. Needless to say, they can't wait until their next library day. :-)

Sponge Painting Shapes

In math, we reviewed our shapes again. Then, they sponge painted with shapes (rectangles, squares, triangles, and circles.) It was really fun and they did a great job staying clean! :-) After we sponge painted, we did math tubs. Our math tubs work on numbers, patterns, shapes, and sorting. They did awesome work at their math tubs. They are becoming math all-stars!

Grandparent's Day!

Today, we celebrated Grandparent's Day at our school. In the morning, we made special cards for our grandparents. In the afternoon, our grandparent's visited the school, and we sang the songs that we learned in music class for them. Also, we enjoyed some delicious cookies. It was a lot of fun!
On Friday, we made shape collages in math. Every table was given a huge, paper shape (triangle, square, or circle.) Then, the students used magazines to search for their table's shape. The students cut the shapes out and glued them to the huge shape. The collages turned out great, and the students did a great job spotting the shapes in the magazines. We also worked more on the letter Ff . We made fingerprints for the letter F. We also made fish. These two projects are now proudly displayed in the hallway. Today, we worked on the letter Gg and made gorillas!

Happy Birthday A!

Today, we celebrated A's 6th birthday. We also worked on the letter E and made cute elephants. In math, we worked on counting and one-to-one correspondence. Also, we went to library and checked out books for the very first time! They were so excited and made great book choices. :-)

Glad to be back!

I missed the last week of school because of jury duty and I am glad to be back! The students did a great job with the substitute. They continued to work on letters C, D, and E in reading. Also, they worked on patterns, counting, and money in math. Here are pictures of two of the letter projects they made with the substitute:
