Gingerbread Glyph

We have started a Gingerbread unit for the holiday season. We will be reading a different gingerbread story everyday during this unit. Also, we have several fun, gingerbread activities coming up, including making gingerbread cookies. Today, we read "The Gingerbread Man." We loved it, and we wrote about our favorite character from the story in journals. In math, we made a gingerbread glyph. They did a great job following directions, and the gingerbread men are now on display in the hallway. Here are the gingerbread glyph directions:

Holiday Stockings!

Today, we decorated stockings for our holiday bulletin board. The students used foam stickers, glitter, and markers to decorate their stockings. They were very creative and the stockings turned out great. You may notice that the students are wearing pajamas in these pictures. That's because they earned another lasso party for good behavior. We enjoyed Popsicles and watched a Max and Ruby Christmas DVD in our cozy pajamas. It was so much fun!

Happy Bear Visits Kindergarten!

Happy Bear visited our kindergarten classes, and she taught us about good touches, bad touches, and mixed-up touches. They received lots of examples of each. Also, they learned what to say if they were uncomfortable with a touch. They should say, "Stop that, back off!" in a firm voice. Before Happy Bear left, they got to give her a hug or high-five. That made their day! Plus, they learned very important lessons about how to keep themselves safe.

Stone Soup!

We read the classic story, "Stone Soup." It's a story about greedy villagers who learn to share. Every student had to bring a food item for our soup (ie. carrots, celery, corn, tomatoes, broth, etc). Then, we made a soup with these ingredients just like in the story. Students helped me make the soup by placing ingredients into the crock pot. Also, each student got a chance to stir the soup. In the afternoon, we made special Thanksgiving place mats for our soup. Near the end of the day, our soup was ready to eat! We ate soup, crackers, and apple juice. It was delicious.

Turtle Racers in P.E.

Today, marked their first day using the turtle racers in P.E. The turtle racers require the students to actually steer. Plus, they are really fun! In math, we worked on addition problems to ten. The students were thrilled to complete a 1st grade addition worksheet. They did awesome! I have some very smart friends. Enjoy the pictures and the video clip!
