Birthday Graph

Yesterday, we made a birthday graph. I gave each student a birthday cake to color. Then, they placed the birthday cake above their birthday month on the graph. After we completed the graph, we counted up how many birthdays each month had in it. Then, we discussed which month had the most birthdays and which months had the least. It was a lot of fun! In reading, we finished working on the letter B this week, and we started on the letter C today. We made a cute bear for the letter B! Also, we are learning some really fun songs to help us learn our alphabet and our sight words thanks to HeidiSongs (www.heidisongs.com). Their educational DVDS are great and fun! You might just hear some of these songs at home.

Fun with Sorting!

Yesterday, we finished up the letter "A" with a fun, art project. We drew apples on the letter A. Then, we cut out the letter A and glued it to a piece of red construction paper. They did a great job drawing the apples the correct color. Also, I am so proud of their cutting skills.
Today in math we talked about sorting objects by their colors. Each table was given different colored bowls and an item (buttons, bugs, animals, and worms) to sort. They worked together with their table to sort their objects by color into the bowls. They did awesome and had a lot of fun! We even switched items and sorted at least 5 different times (that's how much they loved it).

A is for Ant!

We have been working on the letter A this week. We have done many activities involving the letter A. Today, we made red ants. The ants turned out great, and the students did an awesome job cutting and gluing. It was a step by step project, and they followed directions wonderfully. We also have been working on our names this first week of school. Today, we used Bingo daubers, and they followed the lines of the letters in their names using the daubers. Now, we have two, neat projects displayed outside of our room. All in all, it has been a fun, first week!

Here are a few of the ants:

Welcome Kindergarten Class of 2012!

I am looking forward to teaching my fourth year of kindergarten at McCarter Elementary School. This will be my third year using a blog to keep families up to date with the fun things happening in the classroom. I think everyone will enjoy getting a peek into the room.
I also wanted to share a few things about myself with you. I graduated from Washburn University in May 2008. I do not have any children, but I have a wonderful dog named Sadie.

I have a 6 year old nephew. I enjoy watching him play flag football.

I also have an 11 year old niece. She is an excellent cheerleader.
